Please come if you can possibly can, to the parents consultation meeting at The Russell School at 4.30 pm today, 31 Jan.
It's so important that we tell the council just how opposed we are to these plans.
Thank You

What parents and local residents are saying
Some quotes from the petition against this scheme, which is now well into three figures - if you haven't signed it, just click this link.
I was born in Richmond 73 years ago. Lived in Ham and Petersham for 62 of these years. My youngest daughter attended Petersham Russell School and then Greycourt School. My Grandaughter attended Petersham Russell and a few years ago became a member of the staff at Strathmore. All three of the schools have excellant reputations and I feel very strongly about the the changes being made. I still feel the loss of the icerink by meddling polititians making money by selling off land, and in the case of the icerink bad negotiations leaving the young people without the joy I had as a child. PLEASE LEAVE OUR SCHOOLS ALONE.
Both of my boys went to The Russell and one of the reasons that we chose it was for the large site surrounded by open space. These proposals would destroy the nature of the school and the surrounding area.
No - it would detract from learning for Russell School kids No - it would probably detract from Strathmore children compared with their current setup No - it would reduce the green/sports/open space per child No - it would create havoc with transport No - it would create congestion and confusion in shared hallways No - the two schools are too different to allow either to become best in class. We will end up with one school that is mediocre at both.
Outrageous mugging of a local community and with no attempt to disguise the commercial interests behind the amalgamation of 2 schools and the reduction of their free space
I am wholly opposed to selling off the land of Strathmore or Russell School. This sets a precedent for taking away our green space - something that is unique to London and this particular area we live in. The traffic is already horrendous with the parents of The German School dropping their children off just before the drop off of Russell children. There have been many times when I have a seen a near miss with a child and car - how does this proposal keep the children in the school area safe.
Why are extensive refurbishment proposals for both schools not being costed properly and considered? If funds are limited at times such as these then surely this is the most sensible approach, instead of demolishing what could be a wonderful set of buildings and re-building from scratch A HIGHER CAPACITY SCHOOL ON A SMALLER SITE. There seems to be very little logic to what is being proposed!
There's lots more comment at the petition - please sign it and also go the council website and tell the council you disagree with these proposals on their feedback form.
Thanks

TEXT of this weekends leaflets
We thought it was a good idea to put the text of this weekends leaflets up on the blog so you can get the embedded links of the petition, where to register your opposition with the council etc.
Here it is
Here it is
DON’T LET THEM BUILD ON
STRATHMORE & THE RUSSELL SCHOOL
Plans are being pushed
through to merge Strathmore School on Meadlands Drive into three other local
schools – The Russell School, Grey Court and Clifden. The plans involve the
sale of all Strathmore School and large parts of The Russell School to
developers, and also putting a huge new building on the remaining Russell land.
Concerned parents at The
Russell School are opposed to selling school land and are campaigning against
these proposals. We don’t want new houses built on school land. In addition, we
are worried about the effect on the local environment of the proposal to also
double the intake at Russell (as well as merge in Strathmore) and proposals to
build an enormous two story new building at The Russell.
While we would welcome
better facilities for both sets of children, we do not believe this should be
funded by selling any school land to developers.
Russell School parents
voted against these plans at the informal consultation stage but their views
were ignored by the Council.
If you would like to help
the campaign, there are a number of things you can do, which are listed
overleaf. But the most important are

We are all for new facilities for the children at both schools. We don't agree that selling off school land is the appropriate way to pay for it, nor has the Council investigated any other form of funding to get it done.

Council reveal their hand. It's far worse than we thought
The Council revealed their plans last night at a meeting for Strathmore Parents.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, they are far more extensive than revealed previously
They appear to propose selling something like 25% of Russell land to developers and building a two storey building, as well as selling all of Strathmore to developers
They also propose making The Russell School a two form entry
Twice as many children plus all of Strathmore's children (and they are also increasing Strathmore numbers) on an area just 75% of the current Russell School site.
It is a disgrace. Please let them know we will not stand for it by voicing your opposition here.
Needless to say, this is the only place you can see these plans - the Council are not putting them on line
Planned Development (click image to enlarge). The land the Council wants to sell to developers are the large block on the Meadlands Drive side of the school and the Strathmore site on the left of the picture.
